Greetings to all our friends out there on May 17
By Professor Lars Henrik Smedsrud, UiB and the Bjerknes Centre for Climate Research
We have today joined in a very lively May 17 celebration on R/V Lance, and joined in the Northernmost 17. May parade on the planet.
We have now drifted with R/V Lance in the Arctic Ocean for over two weeks. The drift is a part the N-ICE 2015 project that runs from January to July this spring, where unique observations above, below, and of the Arctic Sea ice itself is carried out. During our time onboard we have accomplished 100 turbulence profiles down to about 300 m depth, measured turbulence and solar radiation directly under the ice, and done other detailed observations down to the bottom several times every week.

Report from the sea ice May 3.:
On May 3. 2015 16:40 an RDI Longranger ADCP was deployed at 81 N 54'' and 12 E 52'' close to R/V Lance drifting in the Arctic Ocean. The instrument
will measure ocean currents down to 500 m below the ice, and will cover the Atlantic Inflow to the Arctic that occurs north of Svalbard.
