The cover photo this year was an aerial snapshot by Jan Even Øie Nilsen, above the ocean south of Spitsbergen in April 2013, looking towards the Barents Sea.

The photo shows forming of clouds as warm Atlantic Water in the West Spitsbergen Current gives up heat and moisture to the atmosphere. Further away freshly formed sea ice whirls with the ocean currents.
